Bolder SUV Styling: Exterior Design Changes

The 2026 Outback bears little resemblance to its predecessors. Gone is the wagon-like shape, replaced by a strong SUV profile. The front end features a large grille and a flat, truck-style hood. The roofline now sits 2 inches taller, and the 2026 model stands more upright, improving visibility and adding interior space.

The lighting receives a complete overhaul with stacked headlights. The boxier body features chunky wheel arches that house optional 19-inch wheels. Black body cladding adds a rugged touch. You’ll have a choice of two engines. The standard 2.5-liter Subaru BOXER engine makes 180 horsepower and 178 lb-ft of torque. It hits 0 to 60 in 8.8 seconds while achieving excellent fuel economy: 26 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway.

The turbo 2.4-liter BOXER engine delivers 260 horsepower and 277 lb-ft of torque. It rockets to 60 mph in 6.1 seconds and manages 23 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. Both use a continuously variable transmission and Subaru’s symmetrical AWD.
